Mobile phones have undoubtedly changed the way we look upon the world. As enlightened 21st century beings we see technology not as a form of witchcraft, but as a medium that drives us on to bigger (or in this case, smaller) and better things. What would 10 years ago have required 3 separate (and very expensive) electronic devices to achieve can now be realised on an affordable gadget that will fit into even the slimmest of pockets.

Many of the large telecommunications companies encourage us to call their latest mobile phones "Smartphones", or even "mobile computers", and there are plenty of reasons why these new monikers are viable. With new mobile phones acting as digital cameras, MP3 players, GPS tracking systems, mobile internet and email browsers, personal organisers and even greater functionality on the horizon, where will it all end? A mobile phone UK-wards has fast become as much a status symbol - particularly among young phone owners - than a device used to keep in touch with family and friends, and with the mobile phone deals around at the moment, you can find the latest handset for much less than its face value.

Nokia phones are still the most popular phone manufacturers in Europe; the Finnish communications giant raking in the lion's share of the global market at around 36%. You'd be hard pressed to find mobile shops worldwide that does not stock at least one model from Nokia's huge range of phones. However, some network providers have started releasing their own handsets, with proprietary firmware, usually in partnership with one of the major handset manufacturers - T-mobile phones are one such provider.
